EXPLAINING COVID-19 TO YOUR LOVED ONES
We know that when it comes to talking with your child and loved ones about the coronavirus outbreak, it’s not always easy to explain what it is, how to prevent it and how to handle situations during these stressful times. We have put together resources for you that you may find helpful during this time. Thank you to everyone whose work is listed below, your generosity in making these resources freely available is greatly appreciated.
COVID-19 Information by and for People with Disabilities: A helpful resource for adults with I/DD, their families and caregivers. Click here to view the Spanish version.
Resources for Adults with Disabilities: ADL has put together a list of helpful resources, fact sheets, Q&A’s and guides for adults and caregivers.
Coronavirus ALD Communication Board: The aided language display communications board was designed to support conversations that parents/caregivers have with loved ones related to the coronavirus. This is a general resource and may need to be customized to each person’s vocabulary and/or layout of their system. In other words, you may need to reduce the number of items, program the vocabulary onto their device, or use partner assisted scanning rather than pointing. Thanks to Janelle Sampson of Two Way Street for this resource.
COVID19 – Language Processing Difficulties:
This is a helpful resource for individuals with disabilities in understanding COVID-19 (created by Tactus Therapy).
Additional resources for families including a list of educational activities for all ages to maintain your mental, emotional and physical health and well-being during this time can be found by clicking on the buttons below.
