Who are we?

Little Folk Learning Center offers a pre-school program in the Abbott District of Camden, NJ.   We work with the Camden City Board of Education and are licensed by the New Jersey Department of Licensing.

We run the preschool program throughout the school year, September to June, and a summer program as well.

Who do we serve?

In the Abbott pre-school program, we serve children ages three and four.

Our summer program runs in the months of July and August.  This program is open to children ranging from three to thirteen years of age.

What are our hours of operation?

Our hours of operation are 7:00AM until 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.

This includes the hours of childcare available before and after the preschool program.

What is our purpose, curriculum and staffing?

The purpose of the Abbott Program is to help prepare our children for public school.  Little Folk follows the Camden City curriculum along with the Camden City school calendar.  The curriculum that we share with the Camden City public schools is Creative Curriculum.  Our professional staff is comprised of certified teachers and aides.  A certified part time nurse and a speech therapist are supplied by the Camden City School District.

What sets us apart from other preschools?

·        Five of our teachers hold a Masters Degree in Education.

·        Most of our assistant teachers have earned or are working on their Child Development Associate Degree.  This degree is awarded by the National Credentialing Program.

·        Three of the ten assistant teachers are attending college to earn a Bachelor’s Degree.

·        All staff members are trained throughout the year and attend workshops in the summer to better adapt the curriculum to the classroom.

·        Little Folk has been designated as a preschool with two model classrooms for city.  Teachers come from throughout the city to observe our standard model classroom for techniques on classroom management and our English language learner classroom for techniques on helping children speak and comprehend English.

·        The academic program at Little Folk also includes family workers.  A family worker is assigned to each of our families to offer aid and support with a variety of situations that affect them.  Family workers also offer educational workshops throughout the year covering topics of discipline to family budgeting.  Our parents are kept informed of their children’s progress and are encouraged to make every opportunity to become involved in their child’s education.

What is our program like?

The Little Folk Program operates ten classrooms with fifteen children in each class.  One certified teacher and one teacher assistant are assigned to each class.  Three full time family workers and one part time family worker  are assigned to each of our families.  Full time family workers are assigned forty-five families and a part time family worker is assigned to fifteen families.

The children are given a healthy breakfast, lunch and snack daily.

What are the criteria for participation in the preschool?

The criteria for participation are:

·        Proof that the family is residents of Camden City.

·        Children must be three or four years of age by October 1 of the school year.

What is the cost of our program?

There is no weekly fee for attending the Abbott Preschool Program.

There is a cost for the before and after school hours childcare.  Most of our families receive full or partial payment for this care through the county childcare voucher system.  The office staff can give you the details for the cost and voucher process.

Do we provide transportation?

Transportation is available on a “First Come, First Serve” basis.  There is a weekly fee.  Please check with the center for details.

What is our summer program like?
